An Initiative to Increase the Number of Women Web Developers

"Elles codent" in Marseille ! support for women's digital training

A few months since it set up in Marseille, the Wild Code School is busy preparing the upcoming school year with a first web developer training program. Over five months, motivated individuals will be able to learn the basics and work on a career project, resulting in a state-recognized diploma equivalent to the “Bac+2” grade.

If the Wild Code School has adopted the principle of being open to all (job-seekers, independent professionals, employees on retraining…), it is also aiming to achieve gender equality, since relatively few jobs (33%) in the digital sector in France are occupied by women

The launch of the “Elles Codent” (Girls are Programming) scheme aims to reverse that trend. In 2017, a first edition in Paris provided free training to 30 women. This year, 2018, the Marseille campus is offering the scheme to a dozen female candidates.

It’s a welcome boost for the representativeness of women in these professions of the future, which are major sources for new jobs.

About the Wild Code School

Founded in 2014 by Anna Stépanoff and Romain Cœur, the Wild Code School is a new generation of school for web developers. The concept is structured on an intense training program over five months, combining e-learning and classroom sessions. It’s an approach that is both agile and collaborative, using its Odyssey educational platform, practical exercises during workshops and dojos and project work, including a “client project” for one of the school’s partner companies.

The first school, which opened in the small town of La Loupe in the Eure-et-Loir département, was an immediate success. Other schools soon began to spring up all over France: Paris, Lyon, Lille, Bordeaux, Toulouse, Strasbourg, Reims, Orleans, Biarritz … and even one in Europe, in Brussels.

The Wild Code School in Marseille will be starting its first session in September, 2018 at the PAT.IO, a digital workspace in the city’s historic Vieille Charité district.
