Provence: A region known across the world for its aeronautics expertise

Ever since the inaugural flight of the world’s first seaplane on the Etang de Berre in 1910, Provence has been a home to the aeronautics industry.
The region’s expertise is extensive and recognized throughout the world in sectors such as helicopter manufacturing, civilian and military drone development, green aviation, embedded systems and geolocation software.
This pool of skills has created a real value chain and a dense industrial network around major sector stakeholders such as Eurocopter, Snecma and Dassault Systèmes.

A synergy of resources dedicated to aeronautics

The Bouches-du-Rhône département has put in place an extensive local offer for companies in the sector:

 - Dedicated real-estate at the 155-acre Parc des Florides in Marignane, already occupied in part by companies that include Daher, Eurocopter, Midi Pile, Akka Technologies, Bonnans and business services (banks, employment agencies, training centers etc.);
- The Istres Flight Testing Center, which carries out flight testing of aircraft, specializing in prototype testing (including combat drones under the European Neuron program) and pilot training;
- A branch of the French aerospace laboratory ONERA, based at Salon-de-Provence and focusing on man/machine interfaces;
- The INOVSYS (advanced engineering and processes for prototyping complex systems) collaborative hub, conceived by the Pégase Cluster, providing low-cost prototype manufacturing.

Industry specialist Laurence Soldermann will be concentrating her efforts on highlighting the region’s advantages in terms of set-up infrastructure and technological skills to the companies attending the Le Bourget show. She will also be informing project carriers on the range of services provided by Provence Promotion.
