18 August 2009 - 23 August 2009 / Générale, Média

On August 18 – 21, 2009, Gamesud, the assocation that brings together video game professionals in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region, and Provence Promotion attended the video game trade show Gamescom in Cologne. Their aim was to encourage commercial development, look for investment projects and seek out strategic partners.Thierry Platon, president of Gamesud, stated, “At the end of August 2009, the largest European video game trade show that was held for the first time in Cologne and brought in record attendance, was a huge success. In the French pavillion of the Business Section reserved for professionals, Provence Promotion and Gamesud were strongly represented through the booths of Exkee, Indeego Games, Lexis Numerique and Bip Media. To have such a presence in a tradeshow of this caliber shows how important it is for young design studios to market themselves to the international markets. Everyone was extremely satisfied with the first Gamescom, which has already become a not-to-be-missed event for the continuously growing video game market.”The current economic situation can make it difficult for publishers to find financing for game productions, but it can also offer opportunities. Thomas Demachy, founder of Indeego Games, an online publisher of independent games based in Marseille, said, “We met both suppliers of key elements for websites such as online payment and promotion, as well as content suppliers who are not only publishers but also studios. Over the course of a few days, through business meetings, we were able to make some key contacts to distribute about 50 games.”Provence Promotion pinpointed several international projects by studio leaders in Europe, the United States, and Asia. They will follow-up on the decision-makers in order to promote the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region and arrange onsite visits. Apart from finalizing these international projects, Provence Promotion confirms that the major studios are interested in the region.
