> Birth of the "BabySmart Club" - March 2004
Eight local companies operating on the microelectronics market
have decided to join forces under the "BabySmart Club" banner.
Initially promoted under the name of "BabyGem" by Guy Guistini,
General Director of Provence Promotion and Jean-Pierre Gloton, co-founder
of Gemplus, the "BabySmart Club" is now being created for all
small and medium businesses operating in the Provence
microelectronics value chain.
ASK, ASPECTS SOFTWARE, IMPIKA, INNOVACARD, I2E STELLA, INSIDE
CONTACTLESS, TAGSYS and SPS have already agreed to join the Club,
on the initiative of Paul Morgavi, CEO of IMPIKA. Others could
soon be joining them.
The aim of this operation is to demonstrate the technological and
economic weight of these companies, which is symbolic when they
are taken individually but significant when they are grouped.
To quote Paul Morgavi: "The "BabySmart Club" shows that there is a
wealth of small companies alongside the well-known local
microelectronics players. A multitude of players, operating
between silicon foundries and the market, in packaging,
traceability, security, contactless systems, etc."
This club will enable these companies to network, pool their
resources, combine their efforts and share their experience.
The goal is also to enhance the value of their know-how and
promote the formation or establishment of other small and medium
businesses within the "Provence Smart Valley", operating in the
Provence microelectronics value chain.
With the help of Provence Promotion, the BabySmart Club will act
as a showcase for promotions and communications abroad.
Provence Promotion's General Director Guy Guistini adds: "This is
a concept of identity, aiming to promote and revalue a significant
portion of the Provence microelectronics value chain: Smart &
Secure Solutions. By promoting "BabySmarts", Provence Promotion
hopes to increase the legibility of this value chain and its
industrial players in France and abroad, with a view to
facilitating the lobbying of territorial and European authorities.
This concept naturally extends into the Home Sweet Home operation
in the interconnection and micropackaging sector. Most of these
companies have benefited from the support, advice and assistance
of Provence Promotion and the District Council."
