Optimize the potential for innovation in Provence

The Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur Center for Integrated Microelectronics (CIM PACA) :

It is based on three joint research platforms for the development of microelectronics and its applications.

CIM PACA’s four missions are:

- To reinforce and enhance the synergy between public research laboratories and industry players in order to reduce the costs of research & development
- To allow regional SME’s better access to research
- To become a center of excellence for innovation and industrialization of secure objects such as mobile phones, smart cards or electronic tags
- To ensure the sustainability and development of the sector in the Provence-Alpes-Cote d’Azur region.

Technically speaking, each platform is assigned a mission to promote innovation and competitiveness for a specific scientific and industrial community:

- The « Design » platform is dedicated to the creators of chips at the heart of secure communicating objects.
- The “Characterization” platform is dedicated to the development of microchip manufacturing processes.
- The “Micro-packaging and safety” platform is dedicated to the integration of chips into objects.

The CIM PACA was launched at a cost of over € 100 million over three years, divided equally between private and public investors. It makes it possible for hundreds of researchers to further develop their research capabilities and expertise.

L’École des Mines de Saint Etienne (EMSE)/Centre Microélectronique de Provence (CMP) :

Located in Gardanne, the school has a permanent staff of 51 including 35 researchers, 24 doctoral students and 265 engineering students. The three research teams specialize in: Secure Systems and Architecture (joint team of Commissariat à l'Energie Atomique (CEA) and EMSE), Packaging and flexible support (joint team CEA / EMSE) and Manufacturing and Logistics Science. The CMP hosts the CIM-PACA Micro packs platform.
