Key technologies for the leading activities in Provence
Due to the wide variety of industries affected by (or consumers of) the technologies of optics and photonics in Provence, the region has become an internationally recognized hub in this domain.
- Space: Working around the number 1 European satellite, Thales Alenia Space, internationally renowned regional research laboratories specialized in astronomy and space, and a group of high-performance SMEs
- Energy: With ITER, experimental reactor for which the site of Cadarache was chosen, the technologies associated with the project use various optics and photonics technologies.
- Maritime: Ifremer, Comex and the Laboratoire d'Océanographie draw world-class teams in the field of imaging and underwater vision.
- Health: Optics and photonics technologies are now developing in Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur thanks to the investments of research teams in bio-photonics as well as in medical imaging.
- Microelectronics: The constant progress of photolithography, the optical methods for characterization, microscopy, spectrophotometry, ellipsometry and light distribution measurements are at the heart of innovation in microelectronic components.
- Telecoms: Cutting-edge research on multiplexing dense in wavelengths, micro-structured fiber optics, the realization of optical guides and the development of MOEMS micro components for high-speed networks.
- Industrial processes:Solid expertise among regional SMEs in the fields of metrology and the detection using optical methods
- Environment: Core competencies in the field of environmental monitoring includes observations of the Earth, remote sensing, observation instrumentation and image processing.
