Impressive numbers
In Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur, petrochemical activities are the basis for:
- 140 organizations, of which 125 have fewer than 250 employees and 15 have more than 250 employees
- A total of 19,000 jobs
- 4 refineries: INEOS, EXXON Mobil, LYONDELL BASELL and TOTAL, which together ensure 30% of France’s refining capacity and represent 1,400 jobs
- 63 million tons of hydrocarbons transiting annually through the port of Marseilles-Fos
- 10% of the French chemical industry, in terms of volume
Basic chemicals in the region account for:
- 40% of the national production of polymers and intermediates
- 44% of the national production of ethylene
- 50% of the production of chlorine
204 organizations work in the production of plastics, half of which (and 4,430 jobs) are located in the Bouches-du-Rhône département
