Two Workshops on the Theme of Diagnostics

On November 27 and 28, 2012, San Diego on the US West Coast will be the venue for two workshops being organized by Provence Promotion. The two days of exchanges will take place under the banner “From San Diego Diagnostic Beach to French Mediterranean Diagnostic Bay – Testimonials about market access and valorization opportunities in diagnostics”.

Provence Promotion is being accompanied by its usual partners from previous conferences, French Bio Beach, Eurobiomed and Team Côte d’Azur. A newcomer for this edition will be the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Regional Council, in the form of its economic development agency, the MDER, which is co-financing the event and whose presence should enhance the regional players’ profile in Southern California in the hope of increasing commercial and scientific exchanges between the two regions.

Another guest, the technology transfer company SATT Sud Est (Société d’Accélération du Transfert de Technologies), a key  player in the transfer and marketing of innovative technologies, will be underlining the energy and advantages available in France in a key area of the life sciences value chain.

The spotlight will be put on the region’s attractiveness to the sector and in particular on development opportunities in the field of diagnostics.
The second workshop will be taking place at the offices of the law firm Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, who are sponsoring and hosting the event. This day will be dedicated to identifying selected partnerships for the PACA region players.

Several companies with a presence in the region will be making the trip in order to present their expertise and talk about the attractiveness of its diagnostics sector:

-    Amikana Biologics, represented by Pablo Gluschankof, has developed a diagnostic test to assess resistance to treatment for HIV that is radically different to existing technologies. Its research also concerns the efficiency of hepatitis C treatments.
-    Whidiag is present in the market for in-vitro testing of infectious diseases (malaria and other infectious diseases). Its spokesman will be Yves Bordet.
-    BioCytex is part of the Stago Group specializing in the field of monoclonal antibodies and quantitative flow cytometry and its use in analyzing blood platelets, leucocytes and red blood cells. Maxime Moulard  will be presenting the company’s expertiose.
-    Lastly, the IPMC (Institute of Molecular and Cellular Pharmacology), the laboratory founded by Prof. Michel LAZDUNSKI and based at Sophia Antipolis, will be presenting its research subjects and, in particular, the diagnostic applications in  immunology.

Alongside the two workshops, Provence Promotion’s life sciences project manager Matthieu Vis will be leading a business development mission targeting American companies in the diagnostics and medical devices sectors. The mission’s twin aims will be to present what the region has to offer in terms of project hosting and to identify opportunities for scientific and/or institutional partnerships.
